On my Loom Knitting Journey I went in search of like-minded people
In the beginning the only people I knew that were Loom Knitters, was the Elderly Gentleman that taught me, and my neighbor. The neighbor and I were watching You- Tube videos day and night, to figure out more information about this new craft we had come upon. In our search we discovered that loom knitting was not new at all, it was just new to us. It was hundreds of years old and had changed many times over the years, to get to be the round and rectangular looms, that we are using today. We finally found a few You Tube podcasters, that had tutorials that we could follow along. Now, we were off and running making Beanies. We made lots of Beanie and scarves and yes, there were lots of mistakes. Needless to say, the first winter I had lots of beanies to wear to keep my ears warm. And that’s what my Kids and Grandkids got that first Christmas, lots of ill-fitting beanies. My Neighbor was brave and started posting her beanies on Facebook, and she got orders and sales from her Family and Friends.
I wasn’t quite ready to sell to the public yet. I thought I needed a little more instruction. I liked Loom Knitting, and I was determined not to change from it. I had definitely done many crafts before I got to this point. Since I didn’t have but one Loom Knitters around, I decided to teach two of my Granddaughters to loom knit. One was very interested and one not so much. I thought if I could get others interested in what I was doing, it would be great.
I noticed while I was searching online for likeminded people who loom knit, I found that most of them were actually, crocheters not knitters. I had been looking for my likeminded people in the wrong place. I had been looking for people who liked to knit.
Time passed and I continued to Loom Knit. For some reason in the back of my mind I kept thinking about finding other people, whom I could talk to about loom knitting. I wanted someone to share patterns, new stitches, and to bounce ideas off. I definitely needed someone to go yarn shopping with. Then one day, I met up with someone to talk about needle crafts, at a coffee shop in my area. So, my Loom Knitting Journey continued.
