The whole year of 2024 was a complete blur
I started out talking about my journey as a Loom Knitting Teacher. I soon found out that it is difficult to teach classes, look for supplies and work part time. Throughout the year I had between 6 and 10 students in my classes on Sundays and Wednesdays. I also had a smaller class at another location on Tuesdays. In both classes we had a great time doing various projects. In both classes, I had ladies that caught on to loom knitting very fast and kept me busy finding new projects for them to do. We made lots of beanies, pompoms, scarves, water bottle covers, trash bag holders and market bags. It seemed like there was a boom of grandchildren being born, because someone was always making a pink or blue small beanie. A few ladies attempted to make a blanket but didn’t finish before the baby was born. We did lots of talking, laughing and crying unfortunately in one class two students passed away during this year.
Our class was gifted large bags of yarn a few times, which was great. We in turn made 30 beanies and a few scarves and donated them to a Foster Care Agency for children in California. One of my friends that has a knitting group in California donates beanies there every year at Christmas time. It is so rewarding to be able to teach a craft that helps the student and helps others.
For a short time, I had a man in our loom knitting class, he completed a beanie for his granddaughter. Now he has moved to another state, so far, he’s been the only man; I have had join my class. I told him about the old man that taught me how to loom knit, that might have been what convinced him. My young Friend that got me started in loom knitting came to visit for a few days this year. While she was here, she came to my loom knitting class and taught the ladies how to add beads to their beanies, that was fun. I’m glad the ladies have open minds and are always ready to learn something new. I have plans to add a little crochet to the class this year.
I didn’t get much time to work done on my own projects this year as teaching, researching, and prepping for the classes took most of my time. But I did finish a few beanies. I was able to squeeze in a few Craft Fairs at the senior apartments and at a local church. I sold some beanies and a few flower hair clips. It was a great end to 2024.
